How much to charge for these computer services…?
I’m a computer technician. I’m not certified but did get an AS in hardware support and an AS web development. I get handed PCs to fix all the time from my friends, friend’s bosses, family members, etc.
Recently I fixed a computer for my friend’s boss that was so infected with viruses I had to reinstall windows. First, I had to save some of his pictures, which took forever because the PC was so bogged down.
So basically I just did some minimal data backup, reinstalled windows, and installed a new internet security suite. What would you charge for this?

$100.00 the first hour and $50.00 every hour after that
As much as you can blag from the bloke, Start high and if they so wow £100, then you say, well it’ll probs take me all weekend. Good indication is to go into PC world and ask how much they charge you’d be surprised, It’s £40 quid just for them to open the Case, then they have to find out what’s wrong etc… But people pay for it cos they don’t know shit…
I charge $140 for the same service. Given that the data backup isn’t more than a couple gigs. $110 if the drivers are available on disk.
What country are you in, and what region? Pay varies greatly in this wide world the web connects us in.
The best way to charge for these services is by the hour. If you start charging by the service, then no matter how long it takes in the future you’ll only be getting so much for your work.
I’d charge by the hour, set your price no matter what kind of work it is, then set your minimum time, and go from there.
For instance, if you state $50/hr, with a minimum 2 hr. charge, then no matter how much or little the work you know you’re getting $100 for your time and trouble.
