Is it possible to replace the harddrive on an old laptop?
I have a 10 year old IBM Thinkpad 1400 series with a celeron 733Mhz processor with about 96MB of Ram. I know its really old but I’ve got software programs (specific to my unique profession) on it. The software alone runs about ,000+ and cannot be transferred to another computer because of software security features, thus I must keep this computer just for those programs.
How much would it approx. run for a computer store/person to replace the harddrive and transfer over the data?

It all depends on the tech doing the work. You could be looking at $25 per quarter hour and the first half hour is almost always charged. Plus the cost of the drive.
I have used Acronis True Image to clone a laptop drive via USB cable. Pull the drive from the laptop, hook it up to a desktop via USB (either enclosure or an adapter kit that can be found on Newegg). Clone the drive to your PC then copy it to the new drive. As a bonus you can use the Acronis to do backups. Others prefer Ghost, but I’ve had no problems with Acronis.
