My mother’s boyfriend, actually, our whole family, is very upset and feel incredibly wronged. His sister has recently been battling a liver disease that is slowly killing her liver. Long story short, she needs a liver transplant. Until then, my mother’s boyfriend is her primary caregiver. The hospital has already contacted us once notifying us that a liver was available, which only led to 5 hours of waiting to find out that the liver was not usable after all. With that aside, the same hospital called my mother’s boyfriend, and my mother’s boyfriend’s sister today saying that they have a liver available and if we wanted it, we had to act quickly. So we all drop what we were doing (my mother’s boyfriend was in the middle of playing golf, I just got off work, my brother’s just came home from school, and my mother was working) and we all rushed down there (about a 30 minute drive from the different locations we were all at) only to find out that they were "testing our response time" in case there was an actual liver available. And, of course, there wasn’t! Needless to say, we were all very upset. I mean, think about it. Your hanging on to life by a thread, and someone calls up and says they can save you, you show up with your hopes up, only to find out it was a "drill." I’m sorry, but that’s a load of BS in my opinion. Is there any sort of legal action that we could take in this case? (malpractice, negligence, etc.)
they didn’t call us all. they called my mother’s boyfriend, and his sister, who stays with him, my mother, and my two brothers. My mother’s boyfriend called my mother, who in turn called me. My brother drove my brother, and the sister down to drop her off. My mother, my mother’s boyfriend and I, all drove ourselves. I mainly drove down there in order to take my brothers home when he had to go to tennis practice. My mother is her best friend so, of course, she wanted to be there for her if she could.
Not entirely sure if they charged at all for the first time…it was months ago. I would have to ask him if they charged him at all.
Just a side note, this hospital also lit a patient on fire during surgery and are under majore investigation. Details haven’t been completely revealed, but from what I know, it was a patient from out of country who came in for surgery on her spine. During the surgery, an electrical tool started a fire ON the patient’s back. They simply put it out, and continued on with the surgery. Major stain on their reputation…
