Does anyone know details about property laws in PA, in the event of a single person’s death when there is no will. The person who died was living with his girlfriend at the time, and we are unsure of who has rights to his personal property, his signifigant other or his next of kin (in this case, his parents). He was 25 and unmarried at the time of his death, but he co-owned his home with his girlfriend.
The next of kin, the parents, are only interested in personal property with no financial value (i.e. military papers, pictures, certain clothes, etc.), but the girlfriend will not let them pick up the things or bring them to their house. They have lived in the house for less than 6 months together.
